Callender Lake is a 365-acre lake and 18 feet deep. It is in Murchison between Canton, Athens, and Tyler off Hwy 31, 773, and FM 2339 in Van Zandt County. It is considered a constant level lake fed by natural springs and streams. Callender Lake is a fishing and recreation lake, and large boats are not recommended. There are two gated communities—the Callender Lake and Hickory Hills, with different restrictions and requirements. Amenities include a community center, boat storage, boat launch, park, fishing pier, swim beach with picnic tables, and restrooms. This is a mandatory property owners’ association.
