Hopkins county is in upper east Texas and Sulphur Springs is the county seat. Area cities, towns and unincorporated communities in Hopkins county are Addran, Birthright, Brashear, Como, Cumby, Dike, Gafford, Miller Grove, Pickton, Saltillo, Sulphur Bluff, and Sulphur Springs, and Tira.

Jim Chapman Lake is in Delta and Hopkins county.

Lake Coleman is 13 miles north of Coleman in Hopkins county. The lake is 2,000 acres with a maximum depth of 48 feet and the water controlling authority is the City of Coleman.

Cooper Lake State Park is northwest of Sulphur Springs in Hopkins and Delta counties. The lake is 19,305 acres with a maximum depth of 55 feet.  The water controlling authority is US Army Corp of Engineers.

Lake Sulphur Springs is 1,340 acres and maximum depth is 28 feet and water controlling authority is the City of Sulphur Springs.
