US Army Corp of Engineer Lakes & City Owned Lakes in the Prairies & Lakes Region of Texas

On a US Army Corp of Engineer Lake typically you can not live directly on the water and  can not have a boathouse.  It is possible to live close enough to have a lake view.  (This may not be the complete list of all US Army Corp of Engineer and city owned lakes.)

Aquilla Lake

Aquilla Lake is 3,280 acres, 44  miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 60  feet.  Lake is located 10 miles from Aquilla.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.

Bardwell Lake

Bardwell Lake is located  4 miles southwest of Ennis in Ellis County. Surface area: 3,138 acres, maximum depth 43 feet, impounded 1965. The conservation pool elevation is 421 feet above mean sea level.  Fluctuation is about 4 feet.   The water authority is U S Army Corp of Engineers. The lake is in Ellis county and offers fishing, boating, and camping.

Lake Belton

Lake Belton is 12,385  acres,  136 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 124 feet.  Lake is located 20 minutes from Belton.  It is owned and operated by  US Army Corp of Engineers.

 

Benbrook Lake

Benbrook Lake is 3,800 acres, 41 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 61 feet.  Lake is located 10 miles southwest of downtown Fort Worth.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.

Lake Bonham

Lake Bonham is 1,020  acres,  22 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 30 feet.  Lake is located 5 miles south of Bonham.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.  Fishing, boating, waterskiing, swimming, picnicking, camping, and wildlife viewing are allowed on the lake.

Caddo Lake

Caddo Lake is the ONLY natural lake in Texas. It is located on Big Cypress Bayou on the Texas-Louisiana state line, northeast of Marshall in Harrison and Marion counties. Surface area 26,800 acres, maximum depth 20 feet, impounded: First dam built in 1914, replaced in 1971.  The conservation pool elevation is 168.5 feet above mean sea level.  Fluctuation is about 4-8 feet annually.   The Reservoir Controlling Authority US Army Corps of Engineers.  The zip code area is 75661.

Lake Cleburne

Lake Cleburne is 1,558  acres and the maximum depth is 64  feet.  Lake is located one hour southwest from DFW.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers. They do not allow camping on the lake.

Info: Cooper Lake is located on the middle and south forks of the Sulphur River, northwest of Sulphur Springs in Delta and Hopkins counties.  Cooper lake is 19,305 acres and maximum depth of 55 feet.  The controlling water

Grapevine Lake

Grapevine Lake is 6,684  acres,  60 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 65 feet.  Lake is located just north of the city of Grapevine.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.  

Joe Pool Lake

Joe Pool Lake is 7,470 acres, 60 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 75  feet.  Joe Pool lake is located.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.  The lake is located in Grand Prairie & Cedar Hill in Dallas, Ellis & Tarrant counties.  You can not live right on the water nor can you own a boathouse.  You can picnic, camp, boat, jetski, waterski and fish on the lake.

Lake Lavon

Lake Lavon is 21,411  acres,  121 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 51   feet.  Lake is located in Collin County in zipcodes 75407, 75442, 75407, 75173, 75166, 75098.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.

Lake Lewisville

Lake Lewisville is 28,980 acres,  187 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 67  feet.  Lake is located in Denton county near Lewisville.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.  

Lake O' the Pines

Lake O' the Pines is located on Big Cypress Creek in the Cypress River Basin, 25 miles northeast of Longview in Marion, Morris, Upshur, and Camp counties.  The lake is around 19,780 acres and maximum depth is 49.5 feet.   Fluctuation is 4-5 feet. Fish species found here are chain pickerel, sunfish, crappie, white bass, blue channel and flathead catfish, spotted bass and largemouth bass. The water controlling authority is US Army Corp of Engineers.

Lake Ray Hubbard

Lake Ray Hubbard is 21,671 acres,  111 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 40  feet.  Lake is located one miles west of Rockwall.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.  

Lake Ray Roberts

Lake Ray Roberts is 29,250 acres, 90 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 106 feet.  Lake  is located 30 miles north of Lewisville.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.  It is one of the newest lakes in Texas. 

Somerville Lake

Somerville Lake is 11,460  acres,  85 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 38 feet.  Lake is located 30 miles from Bryan-College Station.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.

Lake Texoma

Lake Texoma is 89,000 acres, 580 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 100  feet.  Lake  is located northwest of Sherman and Denison, west of US75.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.  This lake is on the Texas & Oklahoma border and two-thirds of the lake lies in Oklahoma.  

Lake Waco

Lake Waco is 7,270 acres,  60 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 85 feet.  Lake is located off TX Hwy 6 just outside the city limits of Waco.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.  Zebra mussels have been found in this reservoir! CLEAN, DRAIN AND DRY your boat, trailer, livewells/bait buckets, and other gear before traveling to another water body. Draining water is required by law and possession and transportation of zebra mussels is illegal. 

Lake Waxahachie

Lake Waxahachie is 656 acres,  8 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 48  feet.  Lake is located 2 miles south of Waxahachie off FM 877.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers. There are limestone cliffs.  No camping is allowed on Lake Waxahachie.  You can boat, jetski and fish on the lake. 

Lake Whitney

Lake Whitney is 23,500 acres,  225 miles of shoreline, and the maximum depth is 108  feet.  Lake is located 30 miles north of Waco.  It is owned and operated by US Army Corp of Engineers.  The zipcode areas are 76692, 76671 and 76634 and is in Hill & Bosque counties.
